5XX firmware

At the same time as the introduction of the OM5P, the version 5xx firmware has become available. This is a significant improvement for CloudTrax. It looks familiar, but under the hood it's completely new, with a host of new features and improved functionality. At the moment 5xx firmware is only available for the OM5P, but will soon also be available for the OM2P access points.

If you want to test the new functionality right away, you can add an OM5P / MR900 to an existing OM2P network, so that the entire network will be provided with the new firmware (including the OM2P series).
Since the new firmware has not yet been officially released for the OM2P series, it is advised not to do this for live networks yet, but for a test network this can already be done.

It is also good to know that CoovaChilli is currently not yet supported in firmware 5xx. In cloud trax networks with firmware 5.xx, the Chillispot AAA Captive Portal option is therefore also not visible and adjustable. So if you are using a 3rd-Party Chillispot compatible AAA server, you cannot upgrade to 5xx firmware yet.

The new 5xx firmware has the following improvements ...

1. IMPROVED CLIENT REPORTING / BANDWIDTH SHAPING
Monitoring and managing users on your network just got easier.

Layer 7 Deep Packet Inspection
More than 130 top sites and protocols have been identified to date, allowing you to see how your bandwidth is being used. View in a pie chart or view all data in a table by clicking “More”.

Live dynamic data traffic and user graphs
Clicking on any part of the pie chart will highlight that site or protocol in the “top usage” chart. Likewise, clicking on specific WiFi users will show their usage in the top graph.

OS fingerprinting
View which operating system your WiFi users have.

Layer 7 Bandwidth Shaping
Shaping rules to improve streaming audio and video performance, while limiting online backups and Bit Torrent traffic.

Adjustable reporting period
The user list will now show the traffic of the selected period and SSID. Until now this has always been a fixed period of the last 24 hours. The options are now 2 hours, 1 day, 1 week and 1 month.
Furthermore, until now only the traffic of SSID#1 was monitored, but with the new firmware this now also supports SSID#2.

2. FACEBOOK WI-FI INTEGRATION
Use Facebook Wi-Fi to give customers access to free internet by checking in on facebook. Facebook Wi-Fi is free to use and is available on SSID #1 (lees more).

3. FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS:

1 Faster:
All charts are now in Javascript for improved speed and interactive capabilities

2 Less popups:
More work has been done with dynamic pages or tabs instead of extra popup windows
Examples such as “Clients” table, “More” table for layer 7 traffic

3 On-demand charts:
Individual client usage charts are now built on demand to improve page speed.
The user list can now be called up to further improve the speed.

4 Improved sorting:
Sorting tables has been improved.

5 Reporting from “Wired Clients”:
Until now these have not been included

6 Faster repeater discovery:
Access points can find each other more quickly over the mesh network because of improved scanning. Multi-band mesh encryption is also supported.

7 Better speed test:
Much improved repeater-to-gateway speed test is much faster and can handle higher speeds.

8 Improved captive portal:
Runs on all access points and not just gateway access points.

9 Improved AP isolation:
Now also works on multi-cast traffic.

10 Live reports:
After logging in, all access points receive a trigger to immediately update CloudTrax so that reports are up-to-date.

11 Immediate implementation of changes:
When dashboard changes are made, they are immediately sent to the access points. You no longer have to wait 5 minutes.

12 Multiple network map overlays:
Improved access point placement / sizing with support for multiple network card overlays for locations or campus installations.

13 Wide channels:
You can now use wide channels on both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
